Digital Angel won USDA and FDA approval to market the LifeChip Bio-Thermo® microchip, which gauges an animal’s body temperature. The company looks ahead to future biosensor chips that track an animal’s hormonal changes, blood pressure and, eventually, disease.

Pocket Reader & Pocket Reader EX

The Destron hand held “Pocket” type microchip scanners were designed specifically for use with companion animals in animal shelters or veterinary clinics. Both microchip scanners have a one function button for unprecedented ease of operation. The ergonomic design makes them easy-to-use and convenient. The battery powered, radio frequency microchip scanners incorporate many innovative features for reading and identifying electronic microchips including SMART technology, automatic channel searching and RF Surround. The microchip scanners are reasonably priced for any size clinic or shelter.

The Pocket Reader EX microchip scanner was created to provide animal shelters and clinics in the United States with a reader that could consistently read microchips from various manufacturers. The Pocket Reader EX had the best overall results in a comprehensive, industry-wide field test conducted by the American Humane Association to evaluate the performance of universal microchip scanners. The Pocket Reader EX is recommended for scanning Horses and larger animals.

• SMART (Standard Memory & Re-Programmable Technology)
  The microchip scanners incorporate an integrated circuit which allows them to be re-programmed. Through the use of SMART software, the microchip scanners have the flexibility to read current and future microchip technologies in 13 different languages. This innovative software technology allows the microchip scanners to read the codes of all implanted microchips as required by specific markets throughout the world.
• Automatic channel searching
  The Pocket Reader line of products automatically searches for the presence of other manufacturers’ microchips, locking in on the specific channel and reading the microchip.

  The microchip scanner’s antenna is designed to surround the microchip in a high intensity magnetic field. This optimises reading performance with the microchip in any orientation.
• RS 232 Compatible
  Interface with Serial Interface Link or Smart Kit allows the user to send ID codes directly from the microchip scanner to a computer.
• Battery powered
  The microchip scanners operate on four universally available AAA or AA alkaline batteries.
• Automatic shut off
  The microchip scanners are programmed to automatically shut off when the power level of the batteries is not sufficient enough to read chips.

The Pocket Reader EX microchip scanners incorporate all the standard Pocket Reader features with the following additions:

• Larger antenna size
  The antenna has a larger surface area designed to give greater read range, surface area coverage and speed.
• AC-DC power adapter
  This is available as an optional extra for the EX model reader only. It allows this reader to plug into a standard 240v power outlet for continuous use. This power unit has a product code of Techer-57 Power Pack.
